Choirs (Junior & Senior)
The school day begins in harmony for our choir boys. With early morning rehearsals, our choirs maintain a prominent presence across school events and ceremonial functions. Led by the talented Barry Oosthuyzen (SP) and Alex Patrick (JP) these choirs nurture vocal excellence and instil discipline, teamwork, and school pride.
School Plays & House Plays
From the excitement of rehearsals to the thrill of performance, our annual Junior and Senior plays are an unmissable part of the school calendar. Senior performers also represent their school houses (Bullimore, Evans, Haysom and Stubbs), adding a layer of healthy competition to the creativity.
Instrumental Music Programme
The DPHS Music Centre offers a comprehensive after-school instrumental programme. Learners may choose to study piano, violin, guitar, recorder, flute, clarinet or percussion, with tuition that includes theory and aural training. Students also have the opportunity to perform in concerts and pursue formal exams through Trinity Guildhall or the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music.
Hip Hop
DPHS boys bring bold energy to the beat during weekly Hip Hop classes run by our Drama Club. Open to Grades 4–7 and coordinated by Glynis Harker, this modern dance form teaches rhythm, coordination, and expressive movement in a fun and engaging way.
Marimba Band
We house 2 bands at Prep; a homebased band for which Grade 5, 6 & 7 boys can take part in. Then we have a touring band, a privilege reserved for senior boys in Grades 6 and 7. The Marimba Bands are a rhythmic celebration of tradition and talent. The band’s performances are a crowd-pleaser, featuring both African classics and contemporary hits that showcase musical flair and cultural richness.
Annual Speech And Drama Festival
Hosted in collaboration with the South African Speech and Drama Association (SADASA), our annual festival invites every boy to step into the spotlight. This event is a celebration of voice, movement and imagination culminating in the much-loved Performing Arts Evening. It is compulsory for all Senior Primary boys to take part as part of our Drama programme, with it being optional for our Junior Primary boys.
Gumboot Dance Team
A DPHS favourite, the Gumboot Dance Team captures the heart of African tradition. With rhythmic stomps, claps and slaps, boys in Grades 6 and 7 perform routines that speak of unity, resilience and joy always delivered with infectious enthusiasm and respect.
Speech & Drama
Dramatic skills are woven into the fabric of our curriculum and school life. From assemblies and class presentations to concerts and festivals, every boy develops poise, confidence, and clarity of expression essential tools for life.
