FOUNDATIONAL SUPPORT
The DPHS Grade R Unit is ideally located within the boundary of the main school campus, offering a warm, nurturing, and stimulating environment for our three Grade R classes. Within these classrooms, strong foundations for formal learning are developed through a balanced approach that encourages curiosity, confidence and positive learning attitudes, while also recognising each child’s individual needs and interests.
Our daily programme combines meaningful exploratory play with thoughtfully planned, teacher-guided learning experiences, creating a dynamic and engaging start to each school day. This balanced approach supports the social, emotional, physical and academic development of every boy as he prepares for formal schooling.
CONFIDENT BEGINNINGS
Close collaboration between the Grade R teachers, Junior Primary specialists and key staff members at the Main Campus ensures continuity in learning and a smooth, confident transition into the more formal phase of schooling. Each class is led by a fully qualified Foundation Phase teacher and supported by a dedicated teacher assistant who works closely with both staff and boys to help provide extra individual attention, guidance and care.
The Grade R Unit is led by Head Teacher Les Phipson and supported by a full-time administrative staff member, ensuring the efficient day-to-day running of this department and a welcoming experience for all of our families.
