VISUAL ARTS
At DPHS, art is not about colouring inside the lines, it is about helping every boy discover his own creativity. Our Visual Arts programme invites boys to explore with curiosity, to trust their imagination and to learn how to express their ideas visually and thoughtfully.
From Grade 1 to Grade 7, every DPHS boy becomes part of a specialist studio-based programme, where art is approached not just as a subject, but as a powerful form of discovery, communication, and growth.
CREATIVE EXPRESSION THROUGH HANDS-ON DISCOVERY
Inside the Prep Art Studio, the walls echo with invention. This is where boys sketch, build, paint, experiment and transform everyday materials into meaningful work guided by the elements of design, the study of light and colour, and an appreciation for both classical and contemporary art forms.
Each year builds on the last, with boys introduced to new skills and mediums as they grow.
Projects evolve constantly to challenge learners and keep creative thinking fresh.
DESIGN THINKING, EMOTIONAL GROWTH & PERSONAL INTERPRETATION
DPHS believes that artistic expression goes beyond technique. It nurtures observation, patience, problem-solving, and confidence.
Every boy is encouraged to think independently, explore his own creative process, and develop a personal voice through his work. There are no templates or cookie-cutter projects. While boys are guided in technique and design principles, each final artwork is a reflection of the learner’s own interpretation, perspective and effort.
Respect for tools, materials, and shared space is an essential part of the studio experience. So too is the understanding that experimentation including “mistakes” is often where the most powerful learning happens.
FOUNDATION FOR BROADER THINKING
In this world, there is a place of importance for every artist. We all donate to the variety of creation in the world.
