SENIOR PRIMARY AT DPHS

The Senior Primary Phase at Durban Preparatory High School marks a transformative time in a boy’s educational journey, a time for greater independence, academic development, leadership and personal growth. From Grade 4 to Grade 7, Prep boys evolve into critical thinkers, responsible peers, and well-rounded individuals who are ready for high school and beyond. This phase is guided by Mr Ross Bedford (Deputy Headmaster & Senior Primary Phase Leader) and a team of committed educators who ensure that each boy is supported, challenged and celebrated during these formative years.

GRADE 4: A CONFIDENT START TO SENIOR PRIMARY

Grade 4 is the bridge between Junior and Senior Primary. Learners take on greater academic responsibility and begin navigating a more structured school day. This is the year where new subjects like Natural Sciences and Social Sciences are introduced and learners experience quantitative assessments (marks and formal tests) for the first time.

• Countries & Cultures Day – a project-based celebration of global diversity
• Guest speakers and themed excursions

Throughout the year, boys learn to read fluently, work with numbers confidently and develop key life and social skills. The Grade 4 year includes exciting excursions, galas, sports days and assembly performances, reinforcing the joy of learning in a dynamic and stimulating environment.
